February the 21st : The International Day of the mother tongue.

This event, launched in 2000 aims to promote all the mother languages over the world. Proclaimed by the United Nations General Assembly and under the coordination of the UNESCO, the day’s slogan is”Languages are really important!”. For this purpose, the 21st of February will be the day of the launch of the International Year of Languages.

There is no doubt that any language is the real foundation of the identity of every individual. But despite this inherently paramount, some languages are unfortunately doomed to disappear. In fact, some statistics show that over 50% of 6700 languages spoken in the world are threatened . The worse is still to come, cause over one language ceases to be spoken every two weeks. A disaster !

The 21st of February is the International Day of language so that everyone becomes aware of the importance of the diversity of languages.
